Track Access Portal - Now Supporting 4K Playback
Track Access Portal provides safe and accurate online access to examine the rail environment and now supports 4K footage and playback capabilities. Track Access Services continue to work with GTR, supplying driver training with online footage made available on Track Access Portal. New 4K filming assists route familiarisation by providing high-quality footage, offering more detail when reading signs, signals and exploring the rail environment.
Class 700 trains are now being used by GTR on the Thameslink route. including the route from Finsbury Park to Blackfriars, going through the recently opened Canal Tunnels. The tunnels are a central core of the Thameslink network due to the high number of planned trains that will use the route once ATO training has been completed in 2019.
The 115-strong Class 700 train fleet all came fitted with automatic train operation (ATO) equipment, with two units being used specifically for integration testing. This has allowed further ATO testing to take place through the central core. Track Access Services are supporting the testing and training phase by supplying easily accessible up-to-date footage.
The ATO is underpinned by an electronic representation of the infrastructure known as the track data base (TDB). This information will need to be updated to take account of any permanent way alterations or changes to the route’s speed profile and will eventually be downloaded to the entire fleet via an ATO server.
Convertional signalling will be used alongside the implementation of ATO technology, making driver route familiarisation an important stage of training before the implementation of ATO.
